One of the most beautiful cities in Utah is also one of the most affordable, plus Cedar City provides quick access to Bryce Canyon National Park. This unique area is filled with red rock formations that create mazes, amphitheaters, and spires, while perfectly compliment beautiful green forests.
One of the most scenic byways in America is the Highway 12 Scenic Byway through Bryce Canyon. The amazing views never stop as you drive through the national park, past Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, over Boulder Mountain, through Dixie National Forest and end up near Capitol Reef. The drive presents one wonder after another.
You can explore the park on horseback or on foot and even though motorized vehicles are not allowed in the park, there are fantastic ATV trails in the nearby Bryce National Forest.
Additionally, the park and forest offer camping, fishing, biking, and other backcountry adventures.
Cedar City also provides reasonable access to Zion National Park (60 miles to the south) and Capitol Reef National Park (190 miles to the east).
Moab, UT – population: 5,184, average apartment rent: $624
It’s amazing that a place surrounded by so much natural beauty could have such inexpensive rental rates. Moab is full of rugged character and allows access to two of the nation’s most beautiful National Parks, Arches and Canyonlands.
Canyonlands is enormous and fairly inaccessible. The Maze is the least accessible area of the park and requires high-clearance 4×4 vehicles. There are no amenities and self-sufficiency is crucial as a thorough exploration of the area can easily consume a full week and getting lost is a real hazard. A much safer trip includes a visit to Horseshoe Canyon with beautiful pre-historic paintings and excellent hiking.
Arches offers opportunities for biking, camping, climbing, hiking, and off-road exploration. The area is full of oddly-eroded red sandstone forms that include arches, pinnacles, fins, spires, and balanced rocks. There are over 2,000 of these miracles of nature here. When you visit, make sure to take the hike to Delicate Arch. Seeing it will change something inside of you. There are no words to describe its unique beauty.
